COLD BREW
What you'll need:
- Coarsely ground coffee beans
- Cold water
- Large container or pitcher
- Fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth
- Coffee filter or paper towel (optional)
- Bottle or jar for storage
- Refrigerator
Instructions
1. Measure the coffee and water
For a standard cold brew concentrate, use a coffee-to-water ratio of about 1:8. For example, if you're using 200 grams of coffee, you'll need around 1600 millilitres (ml) of cold water. If you prefer a stronger concentrate, use a ratio of 1:4 or 1:5.
2. Combine the coffee and water
In a large container or pitcher, add the coarsely ground coffee and cold water. Stir gently to ensure all the coffee grounds are fully saturated.
3. Steep
Cover the container or pitcher and let it steep at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. The longer the steeping time, the stronger the flavour. You can experiment with steeping times to find your preferred strength.
4. Strain
After steeping, strain the cold brew concentrate to remove the coffee grounds. You can use a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth to strain the mixture. For a clearer brew, strain it again through a coffee filter or paper towel.
5. Storage
Transfer the strained cold brew concentrate into a clean bottle or jar for storage. Seal it tightly and store it in the refrigerator. Cold brew concentrate can last up to two weeks when stored properly.
6. Serve
To serve, dilute the cold brew concentrate with water or milk to your desired strength. You can also add ice cubes for a refreshing cold beverage.

Tips
- Grind Size: Use a coarse grind size similar to that used for French Press. This prevents over-extraction and bitterness.
- Water Quality: Use filtered water for the best flavour.
- Experiment: Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio and steeping time to suit your taste preferences.
- Customize: Add flavoured syrups, milk, or cream to customize your cold brew coffee.
